The Mundubbera Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) was established in 2008 through the efforts of local people and Councillor Roslyn Berthelsen. Situated within the Library facility on the main street of Mundubbera (Lyons St), the gallery has three dedicated gallery spaces which were designed and built to Gallery standards. The North Burnett Council supports the Gallery with facilities and funding.
Many visitors come to the North Burnett region throughout the year. While the gallery doesn’t have cafe facilities, Mundubbera’s main street has many amenities: shops, café, Post Office etc. and there are many other attractions within the shire.
The gallery is open to the public Monday to Friday in Library hours 8.30am – 11.30am and 12.30pm – 4.30pm. Access is through the library during the week. Over the weekends the gallery is open from 10am to 1pm both days. As the library is not open on weekends access on weekends is via our actual Gallery entrance which is at the back of the library building down the alleyway. Flags on the footpath and signs assist visitors to locate the gallery.
The gallery hosts six exhibitions per year, including one touring exhibition which is usually one of the Museums & Gallery touring program. Artists are welcome to contact us to secure an exhibition space – we try to maintain the exhibition schedule two years in advance. We also have workshops periodically usually in conjunction with an exhibition. Exhibition works are usually available to purchase and volunteers assist with this as well as providing information about current exhibitions and our North Burnett area.
The Gallery has a Facebook page which includes details about past and current exhibitions and events. During the year the gallery host opening events including ‘Wine & Cheese” evenings or morning teas according to the artist’s wishes. We maintain a “Friends of the Gallery” email list which keeps people informed. We also have a volunteer group email to keep everyone up to date.
